How is Eden Pottery Made ?

We make all the pottery that we hand sponge here at our studio. We use different processes of hand-throwing on the wheel and the  mould-based production of casting and jigger and jolly.

Colour and surface pattern are the key elements of our work, using intricately cut sponges designed by Phil. Each pattern is applied to the pot by sponge, which is hand -painted, sometimes the bigger sponges will have up to 6 colours painted and blended before application.

Some of the sponges allow for several repeat prints and some of them will only achieve 1 or 2 prints before the sponge is washed out and the colours re-applied. This is a VERY skilled process as just the right amount of colour and pressure must be used. Martina who prints the patterns beautifully, is our main decorator, she has been with us over 17 years.

For this reason we make small runs of pottery and we have no plans to turn Eden into a factory! But small scale production means we have control over the whole process and every piece is absolutley unique.

We hope that you will appreciate what has gone into the making and decorating of your eden pottery and that you enjoy using it, everday.
